Okay...so...I, again, need your help. I have a paper to write... a persuasive essay. And I am just looking for opinions. And again... NOBODY IS ALLOWED TO BASH ANYBODY ELSE FOR THEIR OPINION...NOR IS ANYBODY ALLOWED TO COMMENT ON SOMEBODY ELSE'S COMMENT. I DON'T CARE IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING NICE TO SAY TO THAT PERSON OR NOT...ONLY COMMENT WITH YOUR OPINION TO WHAT I AM ASKING. Thank you :) This is not meant to be a debate...and everybody is entitled to their own opinions. But I am just looking for some opinions and other ideas.

I have a persuasive essay to write, and the topic I chose was the death penalty. Are you for or against the death penalty? Why or why not?

Thank you.

in traditional jewish law, the death penalty is supported. in modern day america, it is not. why? b/c there are so many mistakes. there have been people who were innocent who were killed. oops right? it's not right to take someone's life unless you know 10000% that they are guilty. and i dont know if we can do that these days.

I'm with Cat's comment. In a perfect world, I'd be for it. I see no reason to pay to support someone, to pay for their meals, to have to provide medical care for them, and I just don't think that jail is enough of punishment for people who kill & rape and all that stuff. I don't think that a murderer should have basically the same punishment as a drug dealer, just have to stay there for a longer time. Jail is meant to punish and provide rehabilitation, if you've been in and out more then a couple times for serious crimes, you're wasting my time, money and air. Also it's comforting to many of the victims to know that they will never have to see this person again, no appeal can get him out, he can't get parole, he can't break out, so especially when the person has commited a number of heinous crimes, it puts the general population at ease knowing that short of reincarnation, they can rest easy that they'll be safe. I think it's in the back of every violent crime victim's head, as well as any witnesses that testify, what could happen if the person ever got out, legally or illegaly.

The death penalty sends the wrong message. If you kill someone and you're found guilty for murder 1 and then the state hands you the death penalty, they're not teaching any lesson here.

If I were in charge, I would have all murders be given consecutive life charges with no chances for parole, in solitary confinement for 23 hours of the day.
I also think another thing our judicial system lacks is rehibilitation. There needs to be more therapy involved in prisons, with or without parole.

The death penalty cannot be legal if murder isn't.

*murderers

Also, I believe that is costs more for the government to put someone to death than it does for them to serve a life term.

I am completely against the death penalty. Have you ever seen "The Life of David Gale"? Because that's a really big part of my reason why. Innocent people have died on death row, and now it's too late to bring them back to life...they died for no reason. Also, it's like the easy way out. A lot of people would probably rather just die than spend their whole life in prison. And finally, it's killing people to show that killing people is wrong. Not effective.
